Ever wondered how major telecommunication companies manage to keep their networks running so smoothly in the face of unprecedented demand? Well, it’s entirely possible that the optimum performance of your phone or broadband provider is down to supremely developed software created by a husband and wife team in Cambridge.
Sharmila Pillai and Chandru Mullaparthi, who live in Cambridge, head up Bluehouse Technology and have a 30-plus team of software engineers in India and Prague. The highly-trained pair, who each have more than three decades’ industry experience, specialise in mission-critical software for telcos and major betting companies. Genuine technology specialists, they build world-class software from scratch to meet demands for extreme performance, massive scale and high availability, with clients across Europe and the US. They choose the best tools for the job with a focus on building robust, reliable software and maintaining long-term client relationships.
Sharmila and Chandru have been captivated by technology even since their university days in India when they would spend more time in the computer lab than in lessons! After graduating Sharmila worked extensively in telecommunications, developing software, integrating major networks, specialising in bioinformatics in literature processing and consulting for telcos and gaming companies. Chandru has written software around the globe, for Siemens India, HP Singapore and Ericsson Ireland and was instrumental in building systems for businesses such as EE and bet365.
Sharmila launched Bluehouse Technology in 2014 after being commissioned to build telco products for a US client. Initially hiring ad hoc teams to deliver projects, by 2018, with increased traction – and Chandru onboard full time – they began building a permanent team. Sharmila and Chandru are keen to offer their expertise to local indie businesses of any size, continue to build innovative products and hope to eventually assemble a Cambridge development team.
