The Plough Shepreth
12 High Street, Shepreth, SG8 6PP
The Plough is a city pub that seems to have misunderstood some directions. Instead of the centre of the city, it has landed in the little village of Shepreth, a 10-minute train journey from Cambridge Station. Other than its location, there isn’t an awful lot of village pub-iness about it.
Much of the pub’s identity is wrapped up in the live music and spectacular musicians it provides a stage for. It has become the home for local performers as well as those from further afield and along with its regular weekly sessions, their legendary Shepreth Music & Beer Festival takes centre stage annually in September. Add to the music a lively calendar of events from quiz nights and board game nights to discos and parties, and you start to see the draw of The Plough.
To keep up this lively vibe, The Plough is the place to experience some of Cambridge’s finest street food vendors as they pitch up as part of a continuous rota of vans – making sure customers are treated to old favourites and new flavours alike. And with a bar offering some of the best local ales, craft beers, cocktails, wines, spirits and ciders you can find, The Plough is certainly a village pub only by name, so go and check out its nature for yourself.
