Modish
3 Green Street, Cambridge, CB2 3JU
With a life-long love of shoes, and a personal collection that once tipped 130 pairs, it’s no surprise when Sarah Decent decided to change career that shoes would be involved. It’s now over 16 years since she launched Modish, first in Saffron Walden, with her Cambridge branch on Green Street joining just a few years later.
Modish offers women’s shoes in sizes 36 to 42 in a range of styles from around 20 brands such Geox, Sketchers and Fly London alongside many niche European brands that are hard to find in the national chains (some of which only sell to Sarah in the UK!)
Sarah used to live in Rome and work in Madrid, and Modish is inspired by the fabulous shoe shops that seem to be much easier to find in Europe. In fact one of the reasons that Modish shoes are so special is that Sarah goes on a biannual pilgrimage to Milan to attend Europe’s biggest shoe show, MICAM – her happy place, as it’s here Sarah will hunt down shoes from around the world that are unusual, beautiful and comfortable for her shop.
In fact it could be said that she is evangelical when it comes to comfort. Partly because Sarah’s got incredibly fussy feet, plus her knees have seen better days (she’s a Lindyhopper when she’s not in the shop) but it’s also because she tells us that she doesn’t believe in torturing her customers! And as her feet are size 4, which is sample size in the women’s shoe world, Sarah can try on every pair to check the fit is spot on.
So if your toes complain when you slip something gorgeous on your feet, or you’re fed up of boring run-of-the-mill high street shoes, you need to visit Modish.
