There are two big issues that Kingsway Cycles can help us all with – one which is very much a global issue, and the other, a bit closer to home.

This ‘hidden gem’ of an indie – tucked away on the corner of City Road and the wonderfully named Paradise Street, near the Grafton Centre – is helping Cambridge folks do their bit for the planet and beat local traffic woes at the same time.

As alongside its range of traditional bikes including city, trekking and racing, Kingsway Cycles has a seriously impressive range of electric bikes from top brands including Ridgeback, Forme and Dawes – and just think about all the money you could save on petrol on your daily commute or school-run! Plus, if you work for a company in Cambridge, you should ask your employer about the Cycle to Work Scheme. This allows you to spread the cost of getting a new bike over a year as well as saving on Income Tax and National Insurance.

Hire bikes, complete with lock and lights are also part of the Kingsway offering, and they stock a solid range of second-hand bikes, clothing and accessories, and offers a fantastic repair service too. They open early at 8pm so bikes can be dropped off before work or after the school run, and their aim is for a same-day turnaround to ensure the cycling community of Cambridge keep on the move.

This family-owned, proudly independent business has been part of the local scene since 1978, when David Ouzman first set up his shop. Originally catering mainly for motorbike owners (they still do MOTs for mopeds), the shop is now run by David’s son Steve and close friend Nick Barrett, both who very much have cycling in their hearts.
