The counter at Eddington’s Dulcedo Social is a thing of beauty. Each delectable bake has been handcrafted with skill and passion, from delicate pastel macarons to buttery fruit-filled croissants, plump seeded sourdough to luscious lemon and poppy cake.
The impressive selection has been devised by Dulcedo Patisserie founders and partners in life Joanna Hajduk and Andrew Hunter, alongside their team of master bakers. Andrew is a talented pastry (and sous) chef, baker and chocolatier who was working at King’s College Cambridge when he met Joanna, who was employed front of house. Their baking business began in 2016, selling homemade sweet treats including macarons, chocolates and croissants, on Cambridge Market.
The following year they opened a shop on Hills Road, bringing their decadent dessert-based offering – included petit gateau – to a wider audience. When the shop lease expired in 2020, Joanna and Andrew moved to Eddington and launched Dulcedo Patisserie, where Andrew was able to begin baking his much-loved sourdough. Around the same time, the couple opened Eclipse Bakery on Mill Road.
Joanna and Andrew unveiled their vibrant café, Dulcedo Social, in March 2024, and now bake their artisan bread and pastries, using organic flour and free-range eggs, at their bakery near St Ives. An extraordinary 250-plus pastries are sold most days at Dulcedo Social, from cinnamon buns to tantalising pastries featuring seasonal fruit (the frangipani pear crumble is exquisite!). The vast bread assortment, dubbed ‘the best in Cambridge’, ranges from miso and sesame sourdough to dark rye, Jewish Challah to ciabattas. The bakers, who love experimenting with exciting flavours, start work at 3am, ensuring all bread is delivered fresh.
With 12 flavours of gelato, handmade chocolate bon bons, locally-roasted coffee and some lovely savoury lunch options, plus friendly staff who greet customers by their first name, there are plenty of reasons to visit Dulcedo Social!
