Situated in bright, airy rooms within Cambridge University Rugby Club, CambridgeSpace is headed up by Damian Mears, a workplace strategy consultant, and Umar Sheikh, a business strategist and entrepreneur.
Launched in 2016 by a group of friends, CambridgeSpace was taken over by Damian and Umar in January 2019. Building on their predecessors’ success, they’ve enhanced the friendly and engaging Coworking environment, which has a real community feel at its heart, offering incredibly reasonable prices and flexible membership perks.
Facilities include 20 hot desks, unlimited Wi-Fi, colour printing, a meeting room with 55” HDTV, and kitchenette (great coffee as standard!). Passionate about workplace wellbeing, they’ve invested in high-resolution monitors for members and ergonomic furniture, plus there are friendly weekly yoga and bootcamp sessions.
A community of like-minded professionals - from creatives to accountants – members benefit from being part of an ‘eco-system’, allowing them to confidently do business with each other. Three social events a month, (Beer O’Clock anyone?) help foster good relations between the 50 or so members.
While there’s a myriad of benefits to going freelance, opportunities to network can feel limited. That’s where Coworking spaces are a genius concept – and CambridgeSpace is arguably the best in the city (don’t take our word for it; they’ve just received this accolade in the 2019 Coworker Members’ Choice Awards for best Coworking in Cambridge).
“We want to develop CambridgeSpace into an operation which supports the fast growing community of freelancers and small to medium sized business owners. We are flexible, friendly and don’t impose a criteria; all we ask is that you have fun,” says Umar.
Following the success of their business model at the Rugby Club, Umar and Damian are currently looking for new locations in and around Cambridge to add to their Coworking community. Best watch this (Cambridge) space. . .
